This collaborative construction project produced advancements in mycelium construction, demonstrated through a large-scale monolithic mycelium vault prototype structure. With that being said this project investigates the capability of Mycelium as a sustainable alternative in the built environment. The following is the outcome work of six people in which I was responsible for form-finding, material study, fabrication, and diagramming.
In order to analyze the behavior of Mycelium material, our first approach was to produce a structural prototype form designed in Rhino vault and monolith plugin in order to examine the strength of the material.
Our proposal involves the orchestration of digital fabrication, transport to a temporary festival location, assembly of the skeleton, mycelium growth, cutting into chucks, transport to the pavilion’s final site, and re-growing the structure back together.
