Competition Entry
The objective of this competition was to investigate post-colonial land and space in the northern part of Tanzania, Africa, and create an efficient and economic community for three families. Due to a severe shortage of good quality housing and a lack of access to clean water and nutritious food, it was crucial to design a sustainable and responsive architecture to address these pressing needs. The project aimed to take into consideration Africa’s environmental effects and climate change and create a comfortable living space for families using passive strategies such as wind and evaporative cooling.
To achieve passive design, sustainable, local, and energy-efficient materials were carefully selected by using digital energy modeling software. The ultimate goal was to create an environmentally sustainable and responsive architecture that could withstand Tanzania’s hot and humid climate.
